CAT Notification 2016- 2017 Details:

CAT (Common Aptitude Test) is the most important entrance exam conducted by Indian Institute of Management for the students who seek to take admission in the IIMs, a premier institute for MBA or other cream institutes and top class business schools. CAT is a computer-based examination that tests aspirant’s knowledge in various subject areas like quantitative ability, verbal ability, logical reasoning and data interpretation. As per the CAT Notification 2016, this year CAT will be conducted in the month of November. CAT Eligibility Criteria:-

All the aspirants who want to register for the CAT 2016 are advised to firstly check if they are qualified as per the CAT Eligibility Criteria given under.

  • Candidates must have a graduation degree in any discipline.
  • Candidates should have managed a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% for reserved categories and differently abled).
  • The candidates studying in the final year of graduation are also eligible for CAT 2016 but they have to qualify the same with given eligibility criteria. 

Reservation of Seats for CAT 2016

  • For SC Candidates: 15%
  • For ST candidates: 7.5%
  • For OBC: 27%
  • For the person with disabilities: 3%

Note: The above percentage prescribed is subject to change as per the year by the Indian government.

CAT 2016 important Dates (TENTATIVE)

  • Official date of CAT 2016 notification: June 2016
  • CAT 2016 Registration Start Date: August 2016
  • Admit card issued Date: October 2016
  • CAT 2016 exam date: November 2016
  • Date of Result announcement: December 2016

The exact date for the availability of CAT 2016 Application Form and the CAT Application Form last date are still too be announced.

CAT Registration Process:

The interested aspirants will be able to register themselves for CAT 2016 in the month of August 2016 through the official website i.e. www.iimcat.ac. The registrations will continue till the end of September but the exact last date of application form is not announced as yet. The candidates will be required to fill the mandatory details in the CAT Application Form and select the three cities where he/she wants to appear for tests. One of the preferred cities will be given as the exam centre and the candidate will be required to take exam from that particular centre only. The admit cards are expected to be released in the month of October and candidates will be able to take printout till the date of examination.

CAT 2016 Application fee:

The registration fee is Rs.1600/ for general and NC/OBC category candidates

The application fee is Rs.800/ for the SC/ST/Person with disability

CAT 2016 Admission Process:

The admission to the IIMS and other top B-Schools is only based on the score in CAT 2016 the individual obtains and the group discussion, written ability test, and personal interview. The institutions will have the right to check the academic background, working background, academic performance or any other related information in order to rank the aspirants for various programs.

CAT 2016 Exam Pattern

CAT exam duration has been increased from 170 minutes to 180 minutes. Previously, it consisted of 2 sections – Quantitative Aptitude and Verbal and Reading Comprehension. From this year CAT 2016 will adorn a complete new look. The number of question has also been changed section wise as:

Quantitative Aptitude and Verbal and Reading Comprehension will have 34 questions each and Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning will have 32 questions. The candidate cannot switch between sections while answering.
