How to Apply for Admission at the College of Charleston?

Once you have shortlisted the College of Charleston as your preferred college and you have also shortlisted a program that you wish to study, the next step is to apply for admission. The admission process may differ depending on whether you wish to apply for an undergraduate program, graduate program. Inevitably, the admission procedures are different for domestic and international students. Here, we will focus on the steps for admission for international students wishing to pursue graduate and undergraduate programs. International students who wish to apply for admission at the undergraduate level after 12 years of education are known as International Freshmen. Let us look at the steps involved in the admission process for International Freshmen:

  • You would first have to create an account at the official website –

  • Note down your username and password for future reference.
  • You will then have to fill and submit the C of C online application form along with the required documents.

Again, the application process differs according to the program that you decide to pursue. For international students wishing to pursue an undergraduate program, the admission process is as follows:

  • Completely fill and submit the C of C online application form along with fees.
  • Submit a PDF version of all your high school transcripts/documents, with the school’s stamp/seal, to the College of Charleston.
  • If your academic record is written in a language other than English, you will be required to submit a certified word-for-word English translation of all the relevant documents.
  • Submit SAT or ACT scores standardized test scores to the College of Charleston through the testing agency.
  • If you are applying to the College of Charleston after completing a year of your degree program in your home country, you may get your courses evaluated for transfer credit. For this, you will have to submit a course-by-course evaluation report drafted by a Credential Evaluation Agency (fees will be charged for the same).

Now, let us look at the admission process for international graduate students:

  • Completely fill and submit the online application form.
  • Once you have completely filled your application, you will be redirected to the payment page.
  • You could pay the fee through your debit/credit card after filling incomplete details like card number, date of expiry, etc.
  • Once the payment is done, you will not be allowed to make any changes to your application. Hence, double-check to make sure that you have correctly filled in everything.
  • You will be asked for the names of three recommenders along with their designations and email addresses during the process of form submission. An email will then be sent out to the specified recommenders along with the letter of recommendation format. Your recommenders will have to fill out the form and submit it to the College of Charleston either online or manually.
  • You will also be asked to submit your writing samples, resume statement of purpose, photograph, and other documents online.

Students can apply for courses during the Fall Semester (courses commence in August) or Spring Semester (courses commence in January).

Fall Semester

The early notification deadline for International Freshmen is November 1 wherein the application as well as supporting documents should be sent by 1st November 2017.

The regular notification priority deadline is 1st March 2018, where preference will be given to applicants who have submitted their application on or before 1st March 2018.

Spring Semester

The deadline is 1st November 2017 for international students who wish to apply for courses beginning in January 2018.

At the graduate level, the application deadlines are 1st January 2018 for the summer, 1st March 2018 for the fall and 1st August 2018 for spring. If your program deadlines fall ahead of these deadlines then submit the required material by the earlier deadlines.
