GATE 2016 Marking Scheme

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2016 is conducted every year by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore. The score of a student in the GATE acts as the criterion of their selection for admission in post-graduate engineering programs in different institutes across the nation. These institutes include Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc). Aspiring students from all over India have been preparing for the GATE which is to be held this year. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2016 is fast approaching, and candidates are busy preparing rigorously for the exam. The marking scheme of the exam can be of great help to students during their preparation during these last days before the exam.

  • There will be negative marking in case of wrong attempts of questions.
  • 1/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer attempted among the questions worth 1 mark.
  • 2/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer attempted among the questions worth 2 marks.
  • There will not be any negative marking in numerical questions.

The General Aptitude (GA) section will have to be attempted by all candidates, irrespective of the branch of their paper. This section will comprise 5 questions, each carrying 1 mark, and 5 more questions, each carrying 2 marks. This makes up for the total 15 marks summed by the GA questions.
